Services had indicated that Night Warfare will become pre-dominant in future and as such, Production of various Pyrotechnic Ammunition items for Night Warfare had to be established in India to achieve the much needed self-sufficiency in this vital field. The necessity for the establishment of this new factory was considered during the Defence Ministry Production and Supply Committee meeting and the project was sanctioned by the Government in Jan 1977. The factory is engaged in the manufacture of various kinds of Pyrotechnic ammunition. It is the only factory in the country producing this kind of ammunition. Since the materials used here are very sensitive and have high energy content, the safety of production processes is very critical.

MORTAR BOMB 51 MM ILLUMINATING
Bomb 51 mm illuminating belongs to the family of illuminating Ammunition extensively used to support night warfare. The bomb provides enough illumination to support infantry for combats, aerial photography and army movements. Bomb is fired from 51 mm mortar, smooth bore, muzzle loading weapon. The bomb is provided with unique delay system to achieve variable ranges of 300 to 900 metres. The illuminating candle is supported by a parachute deployed in the air and gives illumination for a period of more than 30 seconds.
MORTAR BOMB 81 MM ILLUMINATING 2A
It is an illuminating Mortar Ammunition. It is fired from 81mm mortar, smoothbore, muzzle loading weapon. On firing, the gas pressure from the Primary Cartridge and Augmenting Cartridges propel the Bomb. The explosive charge contained in magazine of the fuze ignites the Buster Bag which in turn ignites the star / Candle through hole provided in the metallic disc (Baffle Plate) placed below. Pressure produced due to burning of GP in buster bag pushes the Star Container outwards uniformly. BUOYANT SMOKE ORANGE
It is Orange distress signal used in ships, life craft and life boats. The plastic top cap is to be removed. On pulling the wire link loop the striker will be released and ignite the signal. The signal is to held in hand for a few seconds till it emits dense orange smoke and then is thrown overboard.BSO is a distress signal used in ships, life craft and life boats. It will emit orange coloured smoke.
